Welcome, Jenna Bush!

Jenna Bush is excited to join our church family as the Director of Student Ministries this summer.

Jenna has been serving in youth ministry for 14 years and is a graduate of Eastern University with a degree in Youth Ministry and Biblical Studies.

She was born in New Jersey. She moved to Virginia in 2010, where she met her husband, Tony and married in 2013. Tony is an engineer at heart who does IT and is from Chester, VA. Jenna and Tony have two young children, ages (almost) 3 and 1.

When Jenna gets the chance, she enjoys cruising, singing, and dining (a good steak and Italian are some of her favorites). She enjoys spending time with her family, especially when they get the opportunity to travel.

Jenna looks forward to meeting you all and joining the Trinity UMC Staff.

Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic (MHEC)

Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic (MHEC)

It is that time of year for our annual campaign to help support the Mattaponi Eagle Healing Clinic.  Last year the congregation of Trinity Methodist Church contributed over $3,000 to help purchase supplies that included both needed medical items, vaccinations and personal hygiene items for the Mattaponi Eagle Healing Clinic.

These contributions helped sustain services to over 125 families of native Americas mostly from the Mattaponi and Upper Mattaponi tribes but also including assistance for request from the Rappahannock, Pamunkey and Chickahominy tribes in Eastern and Central Virginia.  Diane Garrison who is the coordinator of Indian affairs was extremely thankful for our support particularly during these difficult times.

This year Diane is again asking for monetary donations to help the staff and the volunteers needed to handle the logistics of storage and distribution of medical and other supplies.  The Eagle Clinic has made an arrangement with a local Mechanicsville drug store program that provides medical supplies, including prescriptions, baby formula and children’s diapers on a more targeted and effective manner.

The Healing Eagle Clinic still has doctors and nurses administer patient care on an as needed basis.  Your contributions will help support these efforts by providing the necessary medical supplies.

If you would like to make a monetary donation –make a check out to Trinity United Methodist Church and put in the memo line The Mattaponi Healing Eagle Clinic. You can also go to the Trinity web site and click on Give, select “Give as Guest” or “Give Online” and choose Mattaponi Healing Eagle clinic in the fund list (or click here).

Thank you in advance for your continuing support

Care Committee Welcomes New Members

Care Committee Welcomes New Members

Do you like to keep in touch with friends and loved ones? Do you like to send cards? Then you would be perfect for our Care Committee! The Care Committee is looking for a few more members. If you are interested, you would be assigned two of our homebound members to send cards to and to call twice a month (Trinity provides the cards and the stamps). It’s a simple way to reach out and help our homebound feel connected. We would love for you to join us! Contact Judy Oguich for any questions.

Health & Safety Updates

Dear Trinity Friends,

We all know that the pandemic isn’t over.  The Delta variant is rapidly increasing infection rates across the country.  As a consequence, the CDC is recommending everyone, regardless of vaccination status, mask in public indoor settings.  Our Trinity PRG (Post-Covid Re-entry Group) as has met, considered these developments carefully, and has adapted our Trinity policies as following:

  • Facemasks are mandatory for all persons (age 5 yrs. and above) indoors on church property.
  • The 9:00 Sunday morning Modern Worship Service will return to Outdoors starting Sunday, Aug. 8.  Unvaccinated persons should be masked.  Masks are not required for fully vaccinated persons.  This service will move indoors when the mask mandate is lifted.

We sincerely hope and expect that these are temporary measures and that the current surge in infections will soon end.  We will continue to follow the guidance of the CDC so that we as a congregation are part of the solution and not part of the problem.  Please know that we are all frustrated that Covid continues to be such a scourge and that we again must take these measures.

There is good news:  The vaccines are working remarkably at protecting us from severe illness, hospitalization and death from Covid-19.  The bad news is that so-called breakthrough infections of fully vaccinated persons do occur, and while these infections are often asymptomatic, or extremely mild it has been determined that such infected persons are fully contagious and a threat to unvaccinated persons.  The rate of children being hospitalized with Covid, sometimes in ICU, is rising across the country.  Our mitigation measures, especially wearing facemasks, are designed to protect the most vulnerable among us – our children and those with compromised immune systems.  Can anyone doubt that the Lord who said, “If anyone asks for your coat, give him your shirt also,” and “If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn them the other cheek” would expect us to do any less?  Jesus asked us to lay down our very lives, wearing masks is literally the least we can do. This is our Christian duty.

In the name of Jesus Christ let us not grow weary in doing the right thing, let us be strong in our faith in Jesus Christ, let us hold one another dear, and let us continue to be of good cheer.  The God of the Ages is our strength and shield.

May his grace and peace be with you,

Pastor Larry

Student Interns

Russell- our student ministry intern.
Russell

Trinity is excited to announce that we have two Student Ministry Interns this summer! They can be reached via email at students@trinityrva.net. Now, let’s find out a little about both our interns.

“My name is Russell Swartz and I’m honored to be serving as one of the student ministry interns this summer. I have been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church since birth, and its congregation has taught me the values of hard work, leadership, and selfless service. I graduated from Douglas Freeman High School in 2020 and just finished my freshman year at Virginia Tech. When I am not at church or school, you might find me playing soccer, hiking, or taking my pug on a walk. I look forward to working with the staff, congregation, and youth over the next few months, and please make sure you stop in and say hello when you get a chance.”

Lucy- our new youth ministry intern.
Lucy

Lucy McLaughlin is excited to co-star with Russell Swartz in the up-and-coming role of student ministries interim intern. You may have seen her in previous Trinity United Methodist Church productions such as lead singer in the youth praise team, youth handbell ringer, acolyte, and Mary in the Children’s 2011 Christmas Pageant, just to name a few. When Lucy is not playing roles in Trinity UMC productions, you may find her starring as an Elementary Education student at Longwood University, a preschool teacher at CLC, or a professional karaoke singer anywhere someone will give her a mic. Lucy would like to thank her mother Suzanne for giving her the genetics to execute quality performance, her step-father Rick for her many driving lessons to and from rehearsals, her sister Emily for paving the road before her, and her sister Erica for sharing the spotlight. Now let’s enjoy the production of Summer 2021 together!

Trinity Co-Rec Softball

Trinity Co-Rec Softball

Trinity is forming a co-ed softball team for this summer.  Games will likely begin at the end of May or the beginning of June and continue one night per week through the summer.  In the past, games have been played at Quioccasin Middle School on Tuesday nights.  This year, the structure of our league is a bit uncertain, so we are waiting to learn the night and location(s).  Softball is a great way to connect with other members throughout the church.  Make it a family affair and bring the kids to watch you play!  If you are interested, contact Paul Brooks at jpaulbrooks@gmail.com.
