The 2020 Session of General Conference, the worldwide United Methodist legislative body has been postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The March 23 announcement came from the Commission on the General Conference. The commission will work towards scheduling a date in 2021 to take place in Minneapolis, MN. “As we looked at the complex issues that we will need to navigate to reschedule the event and the lack of options available, it does not appear feasible to plan for 2020.” Said Kim Simpson, chair of the Commission. “These issues include the undetermined length of the pandemic, uncertainty around travel bans in different areas of the world, delays in processing visas due to government and business closures and other questions.”
The Church Council has approved a new logo to replace our current three-circle logo.
The Logo Design Process
This window, located in the Trinity balcony, served as inspiration for Trinity’s new logo.
Last Fall Pastor Larry asked Kim Johnson, our Communication Consultant for logo concepts with which we could identify as we move forward. Kim used the Trinity Window (over the balcony in the sanctuary) as an inspiration. The logo she designed is thus connected to the name of our church. The triangle and three intertwined circles is an ancient symbol of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Using the Trinity Window as an inspiration speaks of our roots and heritage, while the modern interpretation of it invites us into a bold future. Thanks also to Bonnie Andrews, Nell Chesley and Nell Smith who added final color selections and a finishing touch. We will begin using our Trinity logo this month.
Please collect Box Tops for Education for United Methodist Family Services, Charterhouse School and OakGrove Bellemeade School. Trinity supports both schools with a strong volunteer presence. Both schools need IPads for autistic programs enabling the children to effectively communicate in class. A collection envelope can be found on left side of door at Mission Central ….It’s Pink!
As a part of Reach Out RVA, our congregation made significant effort in restocking the shelves at the Sherbourne UMC Food Pantry. This is a reminder that keeping the shelves stocked at Sherbourne is an ongoing need. We target the first Sunday of each month, Communion Sunday, to drop off food for Sherbourne. Drop off boxes will be in the Welcome Center on Sunday, May 6 just waiting to be filled up. Please don’t forget!
